Langer & niaz

Langer and Niaz organised in Dargah Sharif

Devotees sitting in unity during Langar distribution at Ajmer Sharif Dargah, communal harmony.

At Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Langer (communal meal) and Niaz (offerings) are profound expressions of spiritual devotion and selfless service. These traditions embody the universal message of Khwaja Garib Nawaz (RA): sharing, unity, and compassion. Each month, we joyously celebrate the sacred Chatti Sharif, a spiritually charged ceremony aligned with the lunar cycle, where devotees gather to partake in these blessed traditions.

Chatti Sharif: A Monthly Spiritual Gathering

On the sixth night of every lunar month, the uplifting ceremonies of Fateha Chhatti Sharif are held with deep devotion before Begami Dalan, nestled within the blessed courtyard of Ahata-e-Noor. Attendees gather in a state of reverence, fully aware of the solemnity, sanctity, and immense blessings of this occasion. It is a time for collective prayer, remembrance, and the distribution of sacred food, fostering a powerful sense of community and spiritual connection.

The Blessed Degs: Feeding Thousands with Barakah

Central to the Langer tradition are the two revered Degs (Cauldrons), symbols of abundance and divine provision. These massive cauldrons have been used for centuries to prepare and distribute food to thousands of devotees daily.

  • The Big Deg (Badi Deg): This majestic cauldron, a historic gift from Emperor Akbar, has the divine capacity to cook nearly 4800 kg of food in a single preparation. The approximate cost for one-time cooking is INR 2,00,000 (prices may vary slightly due to inflation).

  • The Small Deg (Choti Deg): Presented by Emperor Jahangir, this Deg prepares 2400 kg of sacred food at once, with an approximate cost of INR 1,30,000 (prices may vary slightly due to inflation).

The entire sacred cooking process is meticulously carried out by the devoted Khadims of the Dargah, ensuring purity and adherence to tradition. If you wish to sponsor a Deg at any time of the year—whether in your presence, absence, or on behalf of someone else—we kindly ask that you inform us in advance. We will ensure the cooking and distribution is carried out as per your Niyaz (intention), and you will receive a proper receipt and documentation of your Deg offering.

Types of Deg Offerings: Nourishing Body and Soul

Among the most cherished offerings is the 20kg Biryani Rice Deg, a rich and flavorful blend of premium rice, aromatic spices, and tender mutton. This sacred meal is immensely popular among devotees, symbolizing sustenance and blessings. Those wishing to serve others and receive divine blessings may take part in this powerful Sufi act of service. Ajmer Sharif continues to be a sacred space where people of every caste, creed, and community sit together in unity and peace—sharing the blessings of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (R.A.).For those seeking lighter, vegetarian options, the 20kg Tahari Veg Deg is also prepared with love and reverence. This pure and easily digestible rice dish with vegetables offers a wholesome meal to devotees.
