HISTORY & GENIOLOGY TRACE
We, the Hereditary Khadims of Huzoor Gharib Nawaz and Gaddi Nashin of Dargah Sharif, are famously known as the Syed Zadgan. Our sacred lineage is traced directly from Hazrat Khwaja Syed Fakhruddin Gardezi Chishti (R.A.), through his blessed elder son Khwaja Syed Masood, elder son of Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz. This noble descent is not only a genealogical truth but a spiritual trust—an unbroken chain of sacred service carried forward with reverence and devotion.
Our family has always performed the sacred religious duties at the Mazar Pak, just as our blessed ancestors did. We continue this legacy by serving the Dargah with sincerity, offering prayers on behalf of countless seekers who cannot reach Ajmer but deeply trust in the blessed gaze of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (R.A.) and long for his spiritual blessings.
The right to serve the Mazar Sharif, conduct all religious rituals, arrange spiritual functions, and receive Nazrana (offerings), has been hereditarily bestowed upon us—acknowledged not only by the Sufi order but also by historical authorities. This legacy is documented in the Malfoozat of the Chishti Order, authenticated through Shahi Faramin (Imperial Orders), Sanads (Royal Certificates), Jagirs (land grants), and honored by Muslim emperors, Hindu Rajas, and even British colonial rulers, who recognized us as the true custodians of the Holy Dargah.
The entire management of the Dargah Aastana and sacred Khidmat, rests solely in our hands. Through every political upheaval and regime change, we have remained firm, loyal, and unwavering in our sacred duties—guardians of a spiritual trust that transcends history itself.
When Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (R.A.) journeyed to India, he was divinely instructed by his spiritual guide, Hazrat Khwaja Usman Haruni (R.A.), to bring with him a trusted blood relative and follower—Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Gurdezi Chishti (R.A.). As the Khadim-e-Khas, Hazrat Fakhruddin (R.A.) served Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (R.A.) with absolute devotion, managing the Khanqah, Langar Khana, and all essential affairs.
Even during the periods when Khwaja Saheb immersed himself in deep seclusion and prayer, it was Fakhruddin Gardezi Chishti (R.A.) who cared for every worldly task. After Khwaja Gharib Nawaz’s Wisaal Mubarak, he remained in Ajmer for nearly a decade, serving until his own passing in 642 A.H. / 1238 AD. His final resting place is near the Mazar Sharif of Khwaja Saheb, within the sacred chamber now known as Tosh-e-Khana. His Urs Sharif is commemorated annually on the 25th of Rajab, with solemn, sacred ceremonies.
In modern times, our loyalty was once again tested during the communal riots of 1947. While many fled for safety, we—the faithful Khadims and torchbearers of this holy trust—remained fearlessly at the Dargah, protecting it from destruction and sacrilege. Our devotion and sacrifice during those perilous times are recorded not just in history, but in the hearts of countless devotees across generations.
