Miracles

Anasagar Lake Water

The venerated Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) resided with his small group of followers upon the serene and sanctified bank of Ana Sagar Lake. The noble devotees of this exalted Saint would, at times, draw water from the blessed lake, occasionally engage in fishing, or—albeit rarely—slaughter animals for sustenance. These simple acts, reflecting a life of spiritual simplicity, stirred unease and clashed with the sentiments of the reigning monarch. The sacred environs of Ana Sagar, adorned by ascetics and priests, became a ground of discontent as some priests raised grievances before the King. Prompted by their disapproval, the King issued a stern decree demanding the expulsion of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) and his disciples from the hallowed hill of Ana Sagar and the blessed soil of Ajmer.

Yet, the resolute Khwaja of Ajmer, bound by the divine command of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the sacred will of Almighty Allah, could not yield to worldly authority. As the wrathful priests conspired to murder him, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) manifested a divine miracle. With sacred calm, he raised a handful of dust and cast it upon the aggressors. At once, they were vanquished—some lost their sight, others their senses, and many fled in terror. Such was the divine majesty that flowed through his blessed hands.

Startled by this divine intervention, the King intensified his opposition and, acceding to the demands of the priests, issued a cruel order: to sever all water access from Ana Sagar to Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) and his companions. Soldiers were stationed around the sacred lake, enforcing this inhumane decree. The faithful followers of the Khwaja returned with empty vessels, narrating their sorrow to their radiant master.

Upon hearing their pain, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) took a Kooza (tumbler) in his blessed hand and made his way to Ana Sagar. As a soldier sought to block his access, the Saint cast a piercing glance—filled with divine power—upon him. Overwhelmed, the guard collapsed unconscious, his sword falling to the ground. Then, with the grace of God, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) drew the entirety of Ajmer's waters—including Ana Sagar—into the humble tumbler. In that very instant, all sources of water vanished from the city. The breasts of nursing mothers and even animals were dried of nourishment.

This awe-inspiring miracle shook the hearts of King’s supporters and left the city in astonishment. Witnessing this heavenly sign, multitudes turned their hearts toward Islam and embraced the faith under the spiritual guidance of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA). The tide of hostility receded before the flood of divine love. Public unrest surged against the King, as despair spread due to the water’s disappearance. Despite desperate attempts and royal stratagems, not a single drop could be restored.

In the end, the humbled King came before Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), penitent and transformed. With sincerity, he vowed never again to withhold water—nature’s sacred trust—from any living being. He offered his heartfelt apologies to the Saint. Accepting the Raja’s repentance, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) restored the water to Ajmer. And thus, the flow of divine mercy once more graced the land.

Rescue of Khaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki QSA

One fine day, Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki (RA), the beloved Khalifa and spiritual successor of the illustrious Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), was taking a leisurely stroll with King Shams-ud-din Iltutmish of Delhi, accompanied by the king's esteemed courtiers. Suddenly, their path was unexpectedly obstructed by an alluring woman who began wailing inconsolably. The king, moved by her distress, gently inquired about the cause of her sorrow. To everyone’s astonishment, she claimed to be pregnant with the child of Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki (RA), demanding that he marry her.

This shocking and vile accusation deeply perturbed the king and his court, as they were fully aware of the Khalifa’s towering spiritual stature and his unblemished character, which radiated piety and divine love. Overwhelmed by the sheer weight of the accusation, the noble Khalifa turned his heart towards Ajmer Sharif and, in a state of silent surrender, sought the divine aid of his Pir-o-Murshid, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA).

In that sacred moment, by the grace of Almighty Allah, the revered Saint Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) appeared before the astonished gathering. The atmosphere became suffused with awe and reverence as the king and his courtiers promptly stood in respect and paid homage to the radiant presence of the great Saint of Ajmer.

With tender concern, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) asked his beloved Khalifa the reason for invoking him. Khwaja Qutbuddin (RA), speechless and filled with tears, could not utter a word. The noble Khwaja Baba (RA) then turned his gaze to the woman and gently addressed the unborn child in her womb. With divine authority, he asked the child to speak the truth.

By the supreme command of Allah, the unborn child miraculously responded from within the womb, declaring that the accusation leveled against Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki (RA) was utterly false and baseless. The assembly stood frozen in stunned silence. The veil of deceit was lifted in a moment of divine unveiling. Overcome by the truth and unable to persist in falsehood, the woman fell to her knees and confessed her guilt before the king and his courtiers.

It was then understood that this entire scheme was a wicked fabrication orchestrated by enemies of Khwaja Qutbuddin (RA), particularly a jealous official (mufti) who harbored resentment towards the Saint due to his close spiritual and royal association with King Shams-ud-din Iltutmish. The conspirators’ malevolent plan dissolved in shameful defeat, while the radiant purity and divine station of Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki (RA) stood gloriously affirmed for all to witness.

Magical Attack on Khwaja Sahab

The mother of the ruler of India at that time prophesied that a Dervesh would one day arrive in his kingdom. She cautioned her son that if he mistreated that Dervesh, his kingdom would perish. Prithvi Raj was greatly astonished by her words. Twelve years after the prophecy, the King was informed that a Dervesh had indeed arrived in his kingdom, just as foretold by his mother.

Despite all his efforts, schemes, and the torments inflicted upon Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), the king was unable to subdue the radiant spiritual force of the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), nor bring him under his worldly control—for such resistance stood in defiance of the Divine Will. Raja Prithvi Raj failed in all his attempts to arrest or harm the Great Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (RA). Even after enduring mistreatment from the king, the noble Saint graciously extended invitations—both direct and indirect—for him to embrace Islam, but the Raja consistently refused.

Prithvi Raj consulted the temple priests and his trusted counselors, Ajai Pal and Shadi Dev. Ajai Pal was a master of occult sciences, possessing followers well-versed in magic, black arts, witchcraft, and astrology.

The Raja then instructed his most powerful magicians to eliminate the Muslim Faqir and his companions, hoping to protect their tradition. Yet he also recalled the prophetic warning from his mother regarding the destruction of his kingdom. Guru Ajai Pal reassured the Raja, declaring that the Faqir was a mere imposter—and that he would expel him from Ajmer so thoroughly that no Muslim would dare return.

The next day, Ajai Pal and his disciples arrived with pomp and preparation. Together with the king, they launched an attack upon Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), who at the time was absorbed in deep meditation and divine contemplation. When Hazrat Khwaja Baba’s (RA) disciples informed him of the looming danger, the Saint prepared to repel the assault—not with weapons, but with divine presence.

He drew a sacred protective circle upon the ground, encompassing himself and his devoted followers. Ajai Pal unleashed his first attack—casting whirling Chakras into the air meant to slice anything they touched. But by the command of Allah, these Chakras could not harm Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) or his companions. Instead, the spinning Chakras returned to strike Ajai Pal’s own disciples. His first attempt failed.

Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (RA) instructed his followers with calm authority not to leave the sanctified circle. Any form of magic or material harm that approached would fall lifeless before its sacred boundary.

Undeterred, Ajai Pal mounted a second attack—this time releasing venomous snakes, scorpions, and deadly creatures toward the Saint and his companions. Yet the moment these beasts neared the blessed circle, they perished instantly. Ajai Pal’s dreadful efforts proved fruitless, and his rage grew.

In desperation, Ajai Pal conjured a ferocious cyclone—one of fire, water, and stone. But the raging tempest reversed, unleashing its fury upon Ajai Pal’s own camp. The people of Ajmer witnessed these events unfold, and their hearts began to perceive where the true divine favor lay.

Threatened and humiliated King rebuked Ajai Pal, warning of dire consequences should he fail to protect the religion and honor of the kingdom. Desperate to reclaim his dignity, Ajai Pal prepared one final act.

He rose into the sky and vanished from sight. The followers of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) watched in silence. One among them, unable to bear the magician’s arrogance, humbly requested the Saint to respond. Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) smiled and gave a simple order—he instructed his Nalain Sharif (wooden sandals of a faqir) to bring Ajai Pal back.

The blessed Nalain lifted into the air and struck Ajai Pal’s head repeatedly, compelling him to descend in surrender. The display of divine power shook Ajai Pal to his core. He fell to the ground in submission at the feet of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), helpless and humbled, awaiting the Saint’s judgment.

Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), embodiment of mercy, accepted his apology and invited him to embrace Islam. Ajai Pal instantly accepted and became a sincere disciple. The Great Saint then bestowed upon him the sacred name Abdullah Bayabani.

Emperor Alamgir

Upon ascending to the Indian throne, Emperor Alamgir, the illustrious Mughal sovereign, promptly undertook a sacred pilgrimage to pay homage at the blessed resting place of the Holy Saint, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hassan Chishti (RA) in Ajmer. It was his customary spiritual practice to greet the sanctified grave of any Wali of Allah with the words "Assalamu Alaikum." If a reply came from the noble resting place, he would affirm it as the true and authentic Mazar Sharif of the Saint. Otherwise, he would order the structure to be demolished.

As he approached the luminous Shrine of Sultanul Hind, Ata-e-Rasool, Emperor Alamgir, in his customary manner, offered his reverent salutation:

"Assalato-Wassalamu Alaika Ya Hindul Wali Ata-e-Rasool Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA)."

Yet, there was no immediate reply. He paused for a few moments and repeated the sacred greeting once more—but again, no response came from the sanctified grave.

With resolute voice, the Emperor declared that if his third salutation too remained unanswered, he would proceed with the demolition of the shrine.

At that moment, a majestic reply emanated from the blessed Mazar Sharif of Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (RA), shaking the air with divine awe:

"Wa Alaikum Assalam Ya Alamgir Hujjati;

Is a reply essential when a Saint is engaged in the Divine Presence of Allah in prayer?"

The words penetrated the Emperor’s heart with trembling reverence. Realizing his grave mistake, Emperor Alamgir fell to the ground in humility, seeking forgiveness and divine mercy. With folded hands and a heart full of remorse, he offered Fateha at the Holy Shrine and bowed his head before the spiritual majesty of Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (RA).

Being a true lover and devoted follower of the Holy Saint, Emperor Alamgir then commissioned the construction of a mosque adjacent to the Dargah Sharif of Huzoor Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (RA)—a sacred structure that today stands in glory as the Alamgiri Masjid.

Cow turned Mature

One day, while seated in serene contemplation by the tranquil waters of Ana Sagar Lake in the blessed city of Ajmer, the Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) beheld a young cowherd tending to a group of immature cows. With a gentle smile and divine presence radiating from his luminous face, the Holy Saint requested some milk from the boy.

With humility and innocence, the cowherd replied that the cows were still young and had not yet begun to yield milk. The words were spoken with sincerity, yet they were about to witness the unfolding of a spiritual miracle.

The Great Khwaja (RA), undeterred, pointed toward one particular young cow and softly instructed the boy to attempt milking it. The boy, though hesitant, obeyed the saint’s divine guidance. To his utter amazement, he found the teats of the cow miraculously matured and overflowing with milk.

He began to milk the cow, and the miraculous yield nourished around forty people, flowing in abundance from a creature that had never produced milk before. This heavenly sign, a clear testimony to the spiritual rank and divine connection of Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (RA), melted the heart of the young cowherd.

Overwhelmed by the majesty and sanctity of the miracle he had just witnessed, the boy fell in love with the spiritual light of the Saint and, from that moment forward, became a fervent and devoted follower of the Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA)—the Sultanul Hind, the Helper of the Poor, and the Light of Ajmer.

On Hajj

It has been reported that the Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) performed two Hajj pilgrimages to the blessed city of Mecca before his divinely ordained arrival in India. What truly astounded and left many in awe were the eye-witness accounts during the sacred season of Hajj each year. Devotees and seekers in Mecca consistently reported witnessing the luminous presence of the Great Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) partaking in the Hajj rituals with utmost devotion and humility.

Simultaneously, other faithful souls bore witness to his unmistakable presence in Ajmer, where he continued to guide, bless, and uplift the hearts of seekers and devotees through his spiritual majesty and divine grace.

This profound phenomenon remains beyond human comprehension and defies the limited perception of ordinary beings, for such simultaneous presence in two distinct realms is impossible for those not divinely elevated. Yet for the friends of Allah, the Awliya, who transcend the veils of space and time, such miraculous occurrences are manifestations of Divine Will.

The hearts of the faithful remain forever stirred by this mystery—a sacred testimony to the exalted spiritual station of Sultanul Hind, the Helper of the Helpless, the Light of Mecca and Ajmer, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA).

His Vision

One day, the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) was delivering a sacred discourse, enveloping the gathering in the fragrance of divine wisdom. During the discourse, the audience observed a peculiar yet deeply reverent gesture. Whenever the Saint turned his gaze towards his right side, he would momentarily rise to his feet, then gently sit down and resume his discourse.

This sacred act occurred multiple times, prompting wonder and curiosity among the devotees present. After the lecture, one of the faithful seekers humbly inquired about the reason for this repeated standing.

The Great Khwaja Baba (RA), in his characteristically gentle and awe-inspiring manner, replied:

"The tomb of my Pir-o-Murshid is in that direction. Whenever I look to that side, the vision of his holy tomb comes before my eyes. Out of reverence, I stand to pay my respects."

Such was the depth of love, loyalty, and spiritual etiquette of Sultanul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA)—a radiant example of how a true disciple never ceases to honor the presence of his Master, even in physical absence, for the bond between Murshid and Murid is eternal and illuminated by Divine Light.

Revival of Dead

An elderly woman, with tears streaming down her face, approached the saint while he was immersed in his sacred prayers. Her heart bore the weight of unspeakable sorrow as she shared her heart-wrenching tale—how the governor had unjustly taken the life of her innocent son. With trembling voice and broken spirit, she implored the venerable Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) for justice.

Moved by her anguish, the Great Saint took his blessed walking stick and gently asked the grieving mother to lead him to the place where her son’s lifeless body lay. His devoted followers accompanied him on this solemn and sacred journey, their hearts heavy with empathy.

Upon reaching the scene, Khwaja Baba (RA) gently and reverently placed the severed head back upon the body of the departed youth. With profound humility, he raised his hands in supplication, beseeching the Almighty Allah to restore life to the young man if he was truly innocent.

By the Divine Will, a miracle unfolded before the eyes of all—the young man awoke, fully restored to life and health. In a state of overwhelming gratitude and awe, both he and his elderly mother fell into prostration at the feet of the revered Sultanul Hind, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), the blessed light of Ajmer.

Sheikh Ali's Loan

As the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) strolled through the blessed alleys of Ajmer alongside his devoted attendant, Sheikh Ali, a creditor of Sheikh Ali approached them with arrogance, harshly demanding the repayment of his debt. Understanding the deeper nature of the human heart, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) gently assured the man that his money would be returned soon. However, the obstinate creditor remained defiant and unsatisfied.

In that divine moment, filled with sacred inspiration, the Saint of Ajmer cast aside his blessed cloak onto the earth. To the astonishment of all, it miraculously transformed into a radiant pile of gold and silver coins. With unwavering calm, he instructed the creditor to take only what was rightfully due to him.

But the greedy creditor, overcome by the base desires of the lower self (nafs), reached out to seize more than his rightful share. Instantly, by Divine Command, the entire miraculous heap vanished, and the man’s arm became paralyzed.

Overwhelmed by guilt and awe, the man fell into prostration before the Mercy of Ajmer, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), seeking forgiveness and divine mercy. Through his boundless compassion and spiritual magnanimity, the Beloved of Allah placed his blessed hand upon him, and the creditor’s arm was restored to its original state—a chance for redemption gifted by grace.

Wealth under Prayer Mat

It is said that although the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) led a life of profound simplicity and ascetic grace, subsisting primarily on frugal fare like dry bread soaked in water, his divine generosity enveloped the entire city of Ajmer. Despite his own minimal sustenance, his cook would prepare abundant quantities of food every day to distribute among the hungry and needy, radiating the Chishti spirit of service and unconditional love.

Each morning, the cook would approach the luminous presence of his master to obtain funds for the day’s provisions. In response, the noble Saint of Ajmer would gently lift a corner of his sacred musalla (prayer mat) and instruct the cook to take only the necessary amount of money for that day’s expenses—and nothing more.

This sublime act of miraculous simplicity and heavenly abundance became a symbol of how Divine Providence flows through the hearts of the Awliya, who rely not on the material world, but upon Allah’s infinite mercy

Justice

One day, a devoted Mureed (disciple) of the esteemed Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) approached him with a heart burdened by sorrow. He narrated how the Governor had subjected him to unceasing harassment and ultimately exiled him from the city. The Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA), with the serenity of a soul immersed in Divine Presence, consoled his Mureed, gently instructing him to return home, assuring him that the Governor had already received divine retribution.

Astonishingly, upon reaching his abode, the Mureed learned that the Governor had met a sudden and fatal end—he had fallen to his death while hunting, a moment that confirmed the truth of the Saint’s words and the mystical justice that flows through the friends of Allah (Awliya Allah).
